Grimeton SAQ
United Nations Day: 24th October
Free Entry and Startup of the Transmitter
The operators of the World Heritage Site VLF (Very Low Frequency) Transmitter in Grimeton/ Sweden have been in touch with the following announcement:
“Every year we mark the important United Nations Day here at World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station. So also this year. This year we are offering free entry to both the Transmitter Hall and our fine interactive Exhibition. So, welcome to Grimeton, meet with us, see the Alexanderson transmitter Startup and visit our ham radio station SK6SAQ for some QSOs. UN Day is Monday, 24th October 2022, and there will be free entry between 10.00 and 16.00. You do not need to buy a ticket, just show up on the spot. (Please note that it is subject to availability, due to the maximum number of people allowed in the building).
You get access to the transmitter hall and the exhibition. The Alexander Friendship Association will be present in the transmitter hall during the day to answer questions about the unique Alexanderson transmitter. We will also show the film Like a Lightning over the Atlantic, from 1925. The transmitter is started and displayed at 11.00 and 14.00. Note! No transmission over the antenna is made on UN Day this year.
The next SAQ broadcast is planned for the 16th of November when the World Heritage Convention celebrates 50 years. The Amateur Radio (Ham) Station SK6SAQ will be open and active. Note that the Visitor Center with café and shop is not open on this day. A toilet is, however, available in the transmitter hall. Also, feel free to use our outdoor grill and bring something good to grill for a nice outdoor lunch with a view of the transmitter towers. You can buy a barbecue ticket here. A warm welcome!”
