In The Editor's Shack: Yaesu FRG-100

The Yaesu FRG-100

The ‘Frog’. I got my hands on one at last. In the editor’s shack this week is the Yaesu FRG-100. And yes, it is a real Prince. People said that this would be a good radio for NDB Dxing, and they were not wrong. I am not in the best of places here, in the Ribble Valley, but I do have my trust Wellbrook ALA 1530 loop to help me out, and the combination with the FGR-100 has proved to be a winning one. I have heard many beacons I never heard before, not even with the AOR AR7030. Apart from NDBs – an aspect of the hobby I only just got into recently – my main interest is medium and short wave. Last night, I checked out stations from Southeast Asia, my home for four years, and I was impressed. If you can get your hands on one of these stalwarts, it is well worth it, even as your secondary receiver. The radio is very easy to operate too, and I was lucky, in that I bought a unit with an unscratched, brightly-lit display. My new best friend.
