ACARS Monitoring with AirNav Systems and Zorns Lemma.
A to Z of ACARS Decoders: AirNav ACARS Decoder and Zorns Lemma 11.42
Western Lancashire has a busy sky, and, as an Airband enthusiast, one of my scanners or wideband receivers almost always listens to the birds. Today, I have gone ‘retro’ and I have switched on my old Signal Communications R-535 radio (can anyone find me some replacement key covers?). The radio is outstanding in its sensitivity, even by today’s standards, and you should get one if you find them on eBay. I have settled on the main European ACARS frequency (131.725MHz), and I have linked the E-535 up with my PC. The computer runs both the AirNav ACARS Decoder 2.1 (left) and Zorns Lemma 11.42 (right). I enjoy watching the screen fill up with flights from the UK, Scandinavia, the USA, Ireland, and a host of other places, and in no time at all, a nice long list of flights builds up. I can copy and paste information, to analyse at a later stage, or I can get pictures of the aircraft I see. Time just flies by doing this.
