JOTA 2018, 1st Lanner Hill Scouts, Lanner, Cornwall
Further to our reports last month on Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) here is a further report, received from the Cornish Amateur Radio Club.
Using the callsign GB1LH, the Club hosted a mixture of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 1st Lanner Scouts, together with their leader Stephen Butterworth.
Because it was a nice day, one of the Club tents was set up outside for HF contacts using a Kenwood TS-570D transceiver, GP2500 vertical and Cushcraft R5 vertical. Terry 2E0LDW was inside demonstrating FT8 using the Yaesu FT-450D while Rick G4PGD gave a presentation on amateur radio together with a short video and sorted out the CW station. Steve G7VOH was in his car in charge of the VHF station. Trevor M0WDO put the Scouts to work assembling little receiver kits, which involved no soldering, just screw contacts. Bill 2E0HCM floated around assisting at all the stations while his daughter Ann Marie, who loves CW, helped Rick on the CW station.
The receiver kits proved to be by far the most popular activity of the day and most were taken home proudly by the Scouts. The photo shows Trevor M0WDO helping the Scouts assemble the receiver kits.
