The National Archives Launches New Series of On the Record Podcast

The second series of On the Record, a podcast by The National Archives, launched in January. On the Record explores stories from The National Archives' collection of over 11 million documents, with this series focusing on the history of protest in Britain from the medieval period to the 20th century. By examining records and speaking to specialists, hosts Katie Fox and Matt Norman uncover unexpected stories and shed new light on familiar ones. In the first episode, Medieval Record Specialist Dr Euan Roger discussed the Great Revolt of 1381 when rebels marched on London in response to Richard II’s efforts to impose a poll tax. The subsequent two episodes will explore the path to universal suffrage and opposition to racial discrimination in the 1970s. In 2020, each episode will be accompanied by a blog on The National Archives’ website, where listeners can learn more about the topic and documents discussed. New episodes of On the Record will be available every Thursday until the end of January on all major podcast platforms and The National Archives website.
